Diesel
Recovery
(to keep it
thawed, use the
cold flow
improver below)
Product
Description AMSOIL Diesel
Recovery (DRC)
is an emergency
diesel fuel
treatment that
dissolves the
wax crystals
that form when
diesel fuel has
surpassed its
cloud point.
Diesel Recovery
liquefies gelled
diesel fuel and
thaws frozen
fuel filters,
avoiding costly
towing charges
and getting
diesels back on
the road.
AMSOIL, the
leader in automotive
synthetic
lubrication,
produced the world’s
first API-qualified
synthetic motor oil
in 1972. Trust the
extensive experience
of AMSOIL, The First
in Synthetics®, to
do the best job
protecting your
engine.
Fast Fuel
Recovery
Diesel applications
operating in
extremely cold
environments face
some unique
challenges. As the
temperature drops,
wax naturally found
in diesel fuel
begins to form
crystals. The point
at which wax
crystals form is
known as the cloud
point. These wax
crystals can
eventually clog the
fuel filter and
starve the engine of
fuel, preventing it
from starting or
even stalling out a
running engine.
AMSOIL Diesel
Recovery quickly
dissolves gelled
fuel to allow the
operator to continue
driving with minimal
downtime. Diesel
Recovery separates
the molecular bonds
of wax crystals that
have agglomerated in
diesel fuel. It
thaws frozen fuel
filters and reduces
the need for a new
filter, saving money
and preventing an
inconvenient trip to
an auto parts store.
Works
Well in Many Diesel
Blends
The marketplace
offers many
different diesel
fuels, all with
varying quality.
AMSOIL Diesel
Recovery performs
well in most diesel
fuels, including
ULSD, off-road and
biodiesel.
Non-Corrosive,
Alcohol-Free
Formulation
Over extended use,
alcohol has a
tendency to degrade
components of some
fuel delivery
systems. AMSOIL
Diesel Recovery
contains no alcohol,
making it safe for
repeated treatments.
In addition, Diesel
Recovery is
non-corrosive and
contains no
chemicals that
interact with fuel
system components.
Corrosion can damage
fuel system
components and lead
to
prematurely-clogged
fuel filters.
Safety in
a Bottle
Diesel fuel quality
varies from one
filling station to
the next, and
low-quality fuel can
have a cloud point
as high as 40°F. A
bottle of Diesel
Recovery in the
glove box is cheap
insurance against
being towed to a
service station or
getting stranded
somewhere in subzero
temperatures.
Recommendations
One 30oz. bottle of
Diesel Recovery
treats 30 gallons of
fuel. When
encountering a
gelled fuel system,
AMSOIL recommends
taking the following
steps for maximum
effectiveness:
• Remove the
existing fuel
filter.
• The filter can
be reused, or a
new filter can
be installed.
• Fill the
replacement fuel
filter with
AMSOIL Diesel
Recovery.
• Install the
replacement
filter.
• Add the
remaining Diesel
Recovery to the
fuel tank.
• Start the
engine and allow
the fuel system
to circulate
until full power
has been
restored.

Untreated
Fuel Leads to Poor
Engine Performance A vehicle
demonstrates its
best efficiency and
engine performance
when it is new. As
the engine ages, its
performance suffers
from gasoline
fuel-generated
deposits that form
on the fuel
injectors, intake
valves and
combustion chamber.
Additives are
required to control
deposit formation.
Today’s
fuels, however, lack
sufficient
treatments of either
enough additives or
high quality
additives. Fuel
system deposits
result in the
following:
• Lost fuel
economy
• Lost power and
poor throttle
response
• Failed emission
tests
• Poor drivability -
surging, hesitation,
stalling, rough idle
• Engine knocking
(pinging) and rap
• Difficult starts
Treated Fuel
Delivers Maximum
Performance AMSOIL P.i.
is the most potent
gasoline additive
available today. As
a concentrated
detergent, it is
unsurpassed in
cleaning combustion
chamber deposits,
intake valve
deposits and port
fuel injector
deposits. AMSOIL P.i.
helps maintain peak
engine efficiency,
fuel economy, power
and drivability in
newer low mileage
engines. In engines
with accumulated
deposits, testing
showed AMSOIL P.i.
provided the
following clean-up
benefits after only
one tank of
gasoline:
• Improves
fuel mileage an
average of 2.3% and
up to 5.7%
• Reduced emissions
• hydrocarbons (HC)
up to 15%
• carbon monoxide
(CO) up to 26%
• nitrous oxides (NOx)
up to 17%
• Restored power and
performance
• Reduced need for
costly higher octane
fuel
• Reduced noise from
carbon rap and
pre-ignition
• Better drivability
• Smoother operation
AMSOIL P.i.
works as an
“emissions passer.”
It is ideal for use
prior to emissions
inspections.
Unsurpassed Deposit
Clean-up Port Fuel
Injector Deposits
form after the
engine has been shut
down and there is no
gasoline flowing
through the
injectors. During
this “hot soak”
period the injectors
heat up and the
gasoline remaining
in the injectors
degrades and forms
deposits. This can
happen very quickly
with the use of poor
quality gasoline and
short trip driving.
Because the
clearances within
the injectors are
extremely tight and
injectors must
deliver precise
amounts of
“atomized” fuel,
even small amounts
of deposits can
cause injectors to
malfunction. Fuel
flow is reduced and
spray patterns are
disrupted,
decreasing engine
efficiency, power
and fuel economy,
while increasing
exhaust emissions.

Diesel Cold Flow
Improver (ACF)
AMSOIL Cold Flow
Improver (ACF) has
been reformulated to
provide maximum cold
flow capabilities in
diesel fuels. The
new formulation
provides superior
performance over the
former DFF
formulation, which
is available while
supplies last.
Cold
Weather and Diesel
Fuel
As the temperature
drops, the wax
naturally found in
diesel fuel begins
to form crystals.
The point at which
wax crystals form is
known as the cloud
point. These wax
crystals eventually
clog the fuel filter
and starve the
engine of fuel or
prevent it from
starting. While
low-quality fuels
may form wax
crystals in
temperatures as warm
as 40°F (4°C), most
fuels have a cloud
point near 32°F
(0°C).
#1 Diesel
Fuel
One traditional
solution to
cold-weather
problems in diesel
engines is the use
of #1 diesel fuel,
which is diesel fuel
diluted with
kerosene. While #1
diesel fuel has an
advantage in low
temperature
operability, there
are also several
disadvantages. The
energy content of #1
diesel fuel is about
95 percent of #2
diesel fuel,
resulting in reduced
fuel economy and
less horsepower. In
addition, the
kerosene used in #1
diesel fuel provides
less lubrication for
the fuel pump and
fuel distributor,
increasing the
likelihood for wear
on these critical
components.
Cold
Weather Performance
Parameters
There are several
areas of diesel fuel
improvement touted
by various cold flow
additive
manufacturers,
including pour
point, cloud point
and cold filter
plugging point (CFPP).
Many claims can be
misleading, so it is
important to
understand this
terminology in order
to determine which
products truly
provide superior
performance.
It is important
to distinguish
between CFPP and
pour point. Many
competitive products
make great claims
regarding pour
point, leading
consumers to believe
their products are
superior when they
actually have an
inferior CFPP. Once
fuel surpasses its
cloud point, the wax
crystals begin to
clog the fuel
filter. The CFPP
temperature is a
more important
characteristic than
pour point because
the engine will not
run if fuel cannot
pass through the
fuel filter.
AMSOIL
Cold Flow Improver
AMSOIL Cold Flow
Improver provides
superior fuel flow
to help prevent
filter plugging in
cold temperatures.
It is formulated for
a broad range of
diesel fuels,
including #1 diesel
fuel, #2 diesel
fuel, biodiesel and
hard-to-treat ULSD
fuels. AMSOIL Cold
Flow Improver
minimizes the need
for blending
standard #2 diesel
fuel with lower
quality #1 diesel
fuel, helping
maintain fuel
economy and keep
engines functioning
normally. It is also
excellent for use
with home heating
oil and kerosene
heat systems.
AMSOIL Cold Flow
Improver uses a
jet-fuel-type deicer
that disperses water
to control ice
formation throughout
the fuel system. It
inhibits wax crystal
formation and can
improve diesel pour
point by as much as
58°F (32°C),
allowing fuel to
flow to the engine
more easily and
improving diesel
engine reliability
in cold
temperatures. In
addition, AMSOIL
Cold Flow Improver
lowers the CFPP by
as much as 34°F
(18°C) in ULSD.
Concentrated ACF vs.
ACF Blended with
Fuel
The new formulation
of AMSOIL Cold Flow
Improver will show
no signs of
solidifying in its
concentrated state
in the bottle until
the temperature
reaches -22°F
(-30°C), a great
improvement over the
previous
formulation, which
solidified in the
bottle at 0°F
(-18°C). Cold Flow
Improver will only
freeze in its
concentrated state,
and AMSOIL
recommends storing
it at temperatures
above 0°F (-18°C).
If ACF is allowed to
freeze in the bottle
it can be thawed and
used. When mixed
with diesel fuel,
ACF effectively
improves diesel fuel
cold temperature
properties. It is
recommended,
however, that fuel
be treated at
temperatures above
32° F (0°C). ACF
will not dissolve
wax crystals which
have already formed
in the fuel.

ULTRA-LOW-SULFUR
DIESEL FUEL
CHALLENGES
The reduced
sulfur levels in
modern
ultra-low-sulfur
diesel fuel (ULSD)
result in
reduced
lubricity, the
property that
controls wear in
the fuel
injectors and
fuel pump.
Improving
lubricity in
ULSD is
difficult
because it must
be done without
adding sulfur
back into the
fuel.
Additionally,
ULSD is
subjected to
extensive
refining, making
it even more
difficult to
treat. For these
reasons, many
competitive
claims are not
based on ULSD
fuels, rendering
them inaccurate
and irrelevant.
AMSOIL Diesel

cracking of gaskets
and seals. Some
fuels are
pre-treated with
oxidation inhibitors
that allow them to
be stored for short
periods without
forming excessive
deposits, while
other fuels have no
inhibitors at all.
AMSOIL Gasoline
Stabilizer (AST)
reduces the
oxidation
process that
occurs when fuel
is stored for
extended
periods,
improving
performance,
extending
equipment life
and decreasing
maintenance
expenses.
Two- and
four-stroke
recreational
vehicles,
hand-held power
equipment, small
engines,
construction and
farm equipment
are commonly
operated
seasonally or
infrequently,
then stored for
long periods of
time. During
these periods of
inactivity, and
as a result of
fluctuations in
ambient
temperatures,
water vapor can
form condensate
within the
engine. When
this condensate
comes into
direct contact
with steel and
iron components,
it forms surface
corrosion on
cylinder liners,
piston rings,
anti-friction
bearings and
steel/iron
contact surfaces
on rotational
seals. Long
periods of
storage can also
dry out
cylinders, often
resulting in
permanent damage
when the
equipment is
taken out of
storage and dry
started. In
addition, fuel
within stored
equipment tends
to oxidize and
form varnish and
sludge deposits
that clog
injectors, fuel
lines and
carburetors,
stick floats and
cause poor
engine
performance,
starting
problems,
increased
maintenance
expenses and
decreased
equipment life.

What
does “octane
number” mean?
Why does it
matter?
The tendency
of a hydrocarbon
fuel, such as
gasoline, to
knock is
measured by its
octane number.
Lower numbers
denote a greater
knock tendency;
higher numbers
denote greater
knock control.
“Knock” is an
uncontrolled and
explosive
ignition of fuel
in the
combustion
chamber. It
causes a
knocking or
pinging sound,
robs the engine
of power and,
left unchecked,
causes serious
engine damage.
Knock may be
eliminated with
the appropriate
octane number.
